Creating a Bathroom Spa Retreat

by James Mahoney

Authors Note: With the busy lifestyles one has today, one where stress and fatigue are all too common, the bathroom is often the only place many people can go to be alone anymore.

Homeowners are starting to turn their master bathrooms into an in-home spa like retreat. The result is that the high-end bathrooms in most new homes today can even rival the kitchen in terms of the time and money spent on renovation. Besides when it comes to bathroom remodeling, homeowners now are more likely to be interested in expressing their individuality and sense of style when it comes to creating a spa bath retreat.

With the busy lifestyles one has today, one where stress and fatigue are all too common, the bathroom is often the only place many people can go to be alone anymore. So it is only natural that they would want to create in their home the luxury of a four-star hotel experience. This has led to homeowners wanting to create a spa-like sanctuary in their own bathrooms.

Bathrooms used to be made small and cramped, not exactly a place people would spend too much time in. When they decide to remodel homeowners today are expanding that space into adjoining rooms in the house to provide a place to relax.

The popular trend today is the spa bathroom. The term ‘spa bathroom’ means that it has the features of a spa, including relaxation, solitude, pampering and privacy. It also provides the homeowner with the ability to enjoy leisure and provide some rejuvenating time in a rapid-paced life.

A spa bathroom can include an endless array of other features including steam saunas or showers, multiple shower heads, air bath therapy, tubs with reflective colors and fragrances. Fixtures remain a cost-effective way to rejuvenate or transform a bathroom. Other features of a spa bath could include luxurious sinks and toilets, warm floors, benches for seating, relaxing chair or chaise, and silent ventilation can provide your bathroom the same level of comfort offered by a world-class spa.

Heated towel bars are another luxury item found in today’s spa bathroom. These heated towel bars enable you to remain warm when reaching outside a cozy, steamy shower and grasping a warm towel to wrap around you before stepping into your comparatively cool bathroom.

Steam showers provide great therapy, relieving muscle tension, reduce stress and joint fatigue as well as help the body relax and purify itself in the rich moisture. Steam showers can also offer a quick and affordable escape from increasing demands on time and help to combat growing stress.

The popularity of steam showers has grown considerably over the last 10 years. Thanks to new developments in plumbing technology and equipment, steam showers are easier to install in most bathrooms. technology is making the bathroom more functional, convenient and pleasurable. Also these systems are becoming more popular and affordable, with many fixture manufacturers coming out with complete steam shower systems that are ready to be installed in place of a normal sized bathtub or shower. It is possible to purchase kits to convert your existing bath or shower into a more spa like retreat.

Another trend in bathrooms includes the installation of rainfall showerheads. These showerheads used to be found only in fine spas. Other shower options include bubbling footbaths with adjustable body and hydro massage jets or the cascading waterfall shower that is digitally controlled by a thermostatic valve and massaging body jets for the ultimate at home showering experience.

So as you can see, there are so many possibilities. The key to creating your private spa bathroom treat is to customize a design to fit your lifestyle.
