by James Mahoney

It is easy to turn a cold Bathroom tile floor into something luxuriously warm. Having nice warm floors underfoot is essential if your bathroom has tile or stone or slate flooring. In fact electric radiant floor warming systems can provide radiant warmth to all kinds of rooms in your home, including the kitchen, and bathroom, and even in areas such as the foyer, bedroom, family room, or laundry room. These systems are not only perfect for master bathrooms, and entryways, but even for granite countertops.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) put out a report “Home Design Trends Survey” in the fourth quarter of 2007, that among other things, showed that radiant-heat flooring continues to be a popular feature in bathrooms.

Electric floor warming is ideal for the bathroom, because you can really feel the difference when stepping out of your shower into a custom heated floor. The heat feels very nice underfoot, especially if you have the cold tile that most people have in their bathroom or kitchen.

Pre-built like an electric blanket, these floor warming systems make up an electrical radiant floor warming system, providing warm floors and soothing comfort that keeps tile and stone surfaces at just the right temperature. The mat-based heating systems are usually used under furniture or fixtures. They take up only a small amount of space beneath the floor and can be installed in three or four hours.

The floor warming mats roll out like electric blankets, usually on the original flooring, or sub floor. The mats have toaster like electric heating elements woven through them. They are then taped, stapled or glued in place and covered with cement. Bathroom tiles, stone or hardwood then go right on top.

These floor warming systems provide a versatile zone heating system by being placed directly under the floor surface. It can be used to complement any conventional central heating system that may fail to heat adequately all parts of your bathroom. The low installation cost and rapid heating capability makes it the best solution for areas where maximum comfort is desired, whether in your bathroom, kitchen, or any room in your home. These floor warming systems are easily regulated, providing evenly distributed heat in every room of the house at any desired time.

Electric radiant floor warming systems uses a thin mesh mat with a heating element woven throughout to heat open floor areas of the bathroom or any room where installed. These floor- warming systems can be installed on plywood and concrete for use under tiles or just about any floor surface. They can be used under almost any floor covering like natural stone, ceramic, marble, granite, or any other that is considered cold. They then provide a gentle curtain of warmth spreads evenly throughout your bathroom, or kitchen or any room, free from drafts and dust. The system is completely hidden, no radiators or registers to contend with.

These floor-warming systems can take the place of radiators, helping provide your bathroom with more usable space. They provide evenly distributed heating at the desired time, providing comfortable warming to your bathroom floors during the winter, spring or fall. The cost of these systems can range from $400 to $700 for an average sized bathroom. This relatively low cost can not only provide warmth and luxury to your bathroom but can be a big plus for potential buyers of your home as well.
